"Pink Martini is a rollicking around-the-world musical adventure...if the United Nations had a house band in 1962, hopefully we'd be that band," says Lauderdale, the band's leader and pianist. Formed in 1994, Pink Martini's music crosses the genres of classical, jazz and old-fashioned pop, drawing inspiration from the romantic Hollywood musicals of the 1940s, and '50s injecting a more global perspective. The band's twelve musicians have studied different languages and styles of music from all over the world in developing their wildly diverse repertoire.
Lauderdale is excited to present his newest musical co-conspirators, The von Trapps, the great-grandchildren of Georg and Maria von Trapp. Pink Martini will be releasing an exciting full-length studio collaboration album, due in March 4, 2014, featuring this quartet of wondrous, clear-voiced singers all lifting their voices in concert with Lauderdale's brilliant, multi-lingual globe-trotting arrangements. In celebration of the release, The von Trapps are touring with Pink Martini and performing songs from the brand new album.
