The Usher Corps & Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers give the valuable gift of their time and we welcome and appreciate all who contribute in this important way. From ushers to mailing crews, committee members to office assistants, volunteers are an integral part of the daily operation of Miller Auditorium. Volunteering not only enhances Miller activities, but also creates rewarding opportunities for social contact in an exciting atmosphere.

What is the Usher Corps?

Founded in 1967 with only a handful of people, the Usher Corps has grown to be 250 members strong and consists of a dedicated team of students and community members.

What Ushers Do

Ushers arrive approximately 60 minutes before the posted curtain time for a particular show. They are informed of the specifics for that performance, any schedule changes and emergency policies. Generally, ushers help stuff and distribute programs before the show and stay after the show to help clear the building.

Benefits

In addition to meeting new friends and catching up with long time friends, ushers often get to enjoy the show they are volunteering for.

How to Sign Up

The Patron Services staff holds an informational meeting twice a year. At this time, anyone interested in ushering can fill out a schedule of performances they would like to work. The Patron Services staff will work to schedule ushers for as many performances requested as possible.
